What really sets us free?

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

In the Gospel of Matthew 4:4, Jesus says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

The word of God sets us free. Plain and simple. If we read it, believe it, and live it that is.

We are not free by just being an American. Or by being 18 or 21. Or by being a part of this church or that church. It’s not by being married or single. Or being a mom or not having kids. Freedom is not having your dream job with lots of money. It's not your dream house, your dream spouse, your dream car, not fancy clothes, not being fit with six-pack abs, a thigh gap, biceps, and glutes. None of that sets us free. They can however be idols that put us in bondage and steal our freedom and joy. They can be good things, even blessings from God, but if they are what we treasure and desire more than Jesus, more than His word, then they become the lie, the idol, and the bondage that we traded for the truth of God. “…they exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Romans 1:25

Don’t let that be you. Don't be deceived. Don’t let the enemy keep lying to you. That was me for a brief time, but God in His grace relentlessly pursued me with mercy and unconditional love and captured my heart once again and forever.

1 Thessalonians 1:9 “…they turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.”

The devil is dead — so silence the lies in your head.

Bind yourself to Christ and you are free from everything else that binds you.

Galatians 5:1 “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (freedom).”

You are Free! Be who you already are!
