Go

The Christian’s calling and mission are to go. Not stay in our comfort zone.

Sadly, I often go about my day forgetting why I’m here. I’m not here for me. I’m here for God and He’s given me work to do and a message to share. The message is good news but not warm and fuzzy. Some find it hard to hear and hard to say, but it’s the gospel truth that everyone needs to hear and believe to be saved, healed, and set free.

I’ve been told we must be careful not to hurt people with our message, so some people give a watered-down version of the gospel.

I don’t believe we should live worried about hurting people with the truth.

I believe we should live hurried about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ because people are perishing for lack of truth (Hosea 4:6).

Jesus said, go…make disciples and teach them to obey everything He commanded (Matthew 28). This is what every Christian is saved and called to do.

The Bible tells us, that every human being is lost and dead in their sins apart from Christ (Ephesians 2:1-2). But they don’t have to stay that way. They can be saved by faith in Jesus Christ. (Luke 19:10)

One day Jesus will come to collect His church (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) – born again redeemed sinners by faith in Jesus Christ will go into paradise with Him. Then Jesus will come again to judge the ungodly (Jude 1:15). The devil and those who reject Jesus will be cast into the lake of fire (Rev. 21). This is a terrible and sobering reality and I hate the thought of anyone suffering it.

But here’s the good news! God, so loved His creation that He sent His only son Jesus to save those who believe in Him (John 3:16-18).

Jesus came to live the life I was supposed to live but I couldn’t because I was dead in my sins. Jesus died the death I deserved as payment for my sins (1 John 2:2). Then He rose from the grave conquering sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:54-57) so I could be forgiven and set free to live an abundant and eternal life with God (John 10:10 & John 17:3). I escaped the terrible judgment that is to come because Jesus took my place.

God can do this for you too. That’s a lifesaving message everyone needs to hear.

People are hurting and dying all around us. They’re being bombarded with lies about life, death, health, and sexuality, to name a few. People at all levels of society and power are deceived and deceiving others. They are making decisions that not only harm themselves but kill others.

The truth may hurt, but it doesn’t kill. Lies kill. The truth, which is Jesus (John 14:6), brings life and sets people free (John 8:32). For those living in opposition to God, the truth will be painful. But that’s a good thing. It’s proof of God’s mercy.

When I was living as an enemy of God, I hated the truth. It convicted me of my sinful living. Eventually, the truth broke me. The truth of God’s unrelenting grace, mercy, and faithful love for me even while I was so unfaithful to Him, broke my heart and drove me to repentance and salvation in Christ.

Everyone needs the truth of the gospel, first and foremost. We don’t need to water it down and try to make it more palatable to avoid offending. It’s God’s Word that does not return void (Isaiah 55:11). It’s the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).

We can feed people, clothe them, and provide temporary comforts. But if we never give them what they need most, the truth that leads them to salvation in Christ, then we leave them worse off than when we found them and we dishonor God because we didn’t trust and obey His command to proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and teach them to obey God.

The Christian’s calling and mission are not to make people feel comfortable by preventing the truth from convicting them.

Of course, we don’t want to hurt people, but we can’t help how people respond. Lots of people hate the truth. Read the book of Romans. We need to gently speak the truth in love and trust God for the outcome. If people are hurt, we can comfort them with the comfort that we have received from God. But our comfort comes from being saved by God and to be saved we needed to realize we were lost.

If someone is lost, they need to be told they are lost so they can get on the right path.

We show God’s love for people by sharing with them His lifesaving truth. They need Jesus more than they need anything else. Everyone needs to hear that God says to repent and believe (Mark 1:15) and go and sin no more (John 8:11). Then they can go share the good news.

If people are making choices that lead to killing babies in the womb, they need to know that is sinful, but God can forgive them if they repent. But how will they know if we don’t tell them?

If people are having sex outside of marriage, they need to know that it’s not only sinful but very hazardous to their health, and God will forgive them if they repent. But how will they know if we don’t tell them?

If someone has been through an abortion they can be forgiven and set free in Christ. They can be redeemed and reconciled with the Lord to live an abundant life free of guilt and shame. I’m living proof of this.

But how will they know the redemptive power of Christ if we don’t tell them?

If Christians know the right thing to do and don’t do it, they need to know that is sinful (James 4:17), and God will forgive us when we repent.

All people, professing Christ and opposing Christ need to hear the lifesaving, life-transforming truth of the gospel. Because only the gospel can save us, heal our wounded souls, set us free from sin, and give us new and abundant life in Christ.

We have great news to share, let’s go.
